AUSTRALIAN Grand Prix  Melbourne’s Albert Park

 

 

 

 

Welcome to the opening race of the Formula 1 season, not only an interesting and beautiful street

circuit, but a fascinating city, renowned for having four seasons in one day!

 

Hosted by the sports mad people of Melbourne, the atmosphere in the city and at the circuit is

second to none. Organisation is of the highest calibre with free public transport to the track.

 

The race action is set in Albert Park around a huge artificial lake to the south of the city, circuiting

over roadways through cricket fields, combining high-medium- and low-speed corners, a couple

of chicanes and several overtaking areas in braking zones.

 

Melbourne’s Albert Park is also one of the most friendly and easy-to-access venues in Formula

One with the super efficient tram system running constant services from all parts of the city to the

circuit. The track offers some special challenges too. Like Monaco, it’s made up of closed public

roads, so no testing is possible on its dusty low grip surface, the short pitlane means its open

house on refuelling strategy and Turn One, Jones Corner, is one of the great

overtaking opportunities for the brave!

 

After the race, there’s plenty more to do in Australia’s great ‘sporting capital.

Fabulous friendly bars and clubs, superb restaurants and for sports fans take in

the Melbourne Cricket Ground (the famous MCG), also home to Australian

Rules Football.
