Istanbul is truly one of the most mystic and imperial cities in the world and fits perfectly in the Formula One calendar. Here the East meets the West, split by the mighty Bosphorous river, in a lively, exotic backdrop of fabulous architecture and stunning scenery.
There are some superb Shisha cafes and restaurants and then of course there’s the pulsating
nightlife (complete with belly dancers and snake charmers) Not to forget those unique
shopping opportunities in the colourful soukes
The Bosphorous river divides Istanbul between Europe and Asia with the F1 circuit
located on the Asian side of the city at Kurtkoy. The impressive undulating circuit,
with characteristics that are definitely reminiscent of Spa, certainly brings out a
similar emphasis on driver ability, excellent racing and also tends to sort the men
from the boys. The drivers have described the circuit as impressive and very
challenging. Last year’s Grand Prix saw an unusually high number
of driver errors and on-
first corner.
